Educational objectives

  • To understand the actor’s strategy : local authorities, public-private developers, industrialists.
  • To understand the urban planning system and to be able to appreciate the interaction between the various urban policies in order to put forward a global urban planning strategy.
  • To be able to use the planning tools and methods relevant to a historic quarter, new neighbourhoods and to areas of economic activity.

Note: The trainees should be told in advance that the educational method is based on a played simulation drawn from a systemic reality. There are those who, for psychological reasons of their own, do not wish to take part in role playing. Others, used to standardized (normative) methods of operating, might be afraid of being destabilized by the discovery of a complex and systemic universe of urban development.
